Important Tyre Warning
Fleet companies are being warned to have proper air in their tyres. It is possible to save money when there is proper fuel in tyres. When tyre pressure is low it means the vehicle has to work harder. In general, low tyres are only helpful when a vehicle is going over rough terrain like Jeep drivers in the US going off road over boulders and other natural creations. For haulage firms low tyre pressure can mean an expense they can ill afford. Michelin and Volvo have undertaken a new testing phase to see what the correct tyre use and pressurisation should be for haulage firms.
They conducted a two week long test with 1,000 km where a rig was driven at the optimal tyre pressure, with optimal tyres and proper wheel alignment. Researchers found the vehicle consumed 14.5 per cent less fuel with the tyres at the proper rating. This is why it is imperative that haulage operators check tyre pressure and continue to change out old tyres.
Businesses that wish to survive have to find savings wherever they can, especially in light of other worries like mega trucks coming in from Europe and increased fuel prices. Petrol prices are on the rise in the UK. It will make things more difficult for haulage operators.
There are other things one can do besides checking the tyre pressure. Maintenance on any vehicle is important. Oil changes need to be done frequently. Tyre alignment and tyre replacement also need to be conducted frequently. There is a reason that we have vehicle manuals telling us how often we should be changing out our tyres and getting maintenance performed on vehicles.
Besides maintenance a driver and fleet operators can seek out helpful products like fuel cards. These cards help one save off of the pump price. It may be a few pence per fill up, but this adds up every week, and thus every month of the year. The fuel product also helps one reduce other costs in business such as administration costs. This is because the managers can spend less time figuring out the fuel bills and reimbursing drivers. They have a more accurate budget to consider which also helps save over time. With plenty of options out there, one just has to take advantage of good practices and good products. Fleet firms can save a little at a time, which adds up.
