Important Consideration When Buying a Used Car

Here are some important considerations when you buy a used car, do not let you buy a pile of scrap metal:

Check the bodywork

Walk around the car and look for elements of rust that might be appearing on the surface of the bodywork. Press on them to see how strong they are. If they are weak then it may be a bigger problem than you might think.

Also walk around to every corner of the car and look along the bodywork for a change in color of a different paint finish. This will indicate that the car may have had some work done or may have been in an accident.

Also take a small magnet with you to check the underside of the bodywork and parts that may have been filled in are more than likely to be plastic and the magnet won’t stick.

Check inside

Look for water stains in the boot or in the foot wells as this is a great way to tell if water is leaking into the car.

If the car has low mileage then just check the gear knob. If this is worn then it will indicate that the car may have done more miles than the selling is letting on. The floor mats will also give you an idea of how worn the car is, if these are down to bare threads then it’s a pretty safe bet that the car has done a few miles.

If the mileage is low this isn’t always a good thing. The clock may have been altered or the car may have remained stationary for long periods of time and may have not gotten a good or regular run, which can be as bad as too many miles on the clock.

Just considering these few things you will find that there is less chance that you will be ripped off when looking for a brand new car. You will be able to get a good insight of what to look for and be able to ask all of the right questions so the seller knows you can’t pull the wool over your eyes.
